Group walks
The Dumfries & District Group organises walks to suit most tastes throughout the region and beyond. We offer our members almost 100 walks a year.
The core programme consists of day walks on the first and third full weekends of the month on both Saturday and Sunday: usually an easy, low-level walk and a more strenuous one, usually ranging from 8 to 12 miles in length. Between May and July we provide shorter evening walks We have an extra day walk every third Wednesday of the month.
In addition to the core programme there two adventure walks each month can be more challenging as they may be in an area new to the walk leader and may not have been recce'd, The proposed route in consequence may change on the day.
Any weekends without a day walk we have a Half Day walk. These are generally in the morning and are 4 to 6 miles in length and usually at a leisurely pace.
Residential weekends are held most years and allow the group to visit areas beyond the range of our day walks.
We practise car sharing and normally meet at Brooms Road car park Dumfries to organise this. The times given in the programme are those for meeting at Brooms Road. it is important to advise the leader if you intend going straight to the start.
Please see the current programme for details of upcoming walks and further information.
Social events
The group also undertakes a number of social activities throughout the year. Usually we will have a coffee morning, barbecue, quiz night and Chritmas lunch.
